Backstage Update on Edge’s Retirement on Tonight’s RAW

WWE sources indicate that the Edge retirement from tonight’s RAW is 100% legitimate and not part of a storyline.

The story that Edge told about tests coming back and showing issues with his neck are true. Edge was handed a mic at RAW tonight and told to go out and say bye however he wanted.

No word yet what will happen to the World Heavyweight Title.

Less than a week after his successful title defense against Alberto Del Rio at WrestleMania XXVII, World Heavyweight Champion Edge has been forced to retire from in-ring competition due to injury. The unexpected news brings to an end a storied WWE career spanning 13 years and consisting of 11 World Title reigns.

The Rated-R Superstar had been suffering numbness and uncontrollable trembling in his arms and hands. This is not the first time Edge has experienced these symptoms of nueropraxia. An MRI in Atlanta last Monday was sent to Dr. Joseph Maroon, a renowned neurosurgeon and professor of neurosurgery at The Pittsburgh School of Medicine. After careful examination of the MRI, it was determined that Edge would never be cleared to compete again, and thus, he is forced to retire.

In 2003, Edge underwent a two level spinal fusion of the discs between his C5, C6 and C7 vertebrae. After being cleared to compete, The Rated-R Superstar returned to the ring, resulting in stenosis of the spine, or a narrowing of the spinal column, above and below the fused discs. This narrowing resulted in less and less of the vital fluid needed to protect the spinal cord. Medical professionals cannot clear Edge to compete ever again in WWE since doing so could result in paralysis or even death.

- WWE has announced that Edge will surrender the World Heavyweight Title at tomorrow night’s SmackDown tapings.

En cuanto a lo de Edge contra Christian, a Vince no le importa lo que quieren los fans, ahí se hace lo que él cree que vende más... lo ideal sería que le den el título a Christian, ya que no sólo es el que se lo merece más sino que es el llamado a ocupar el lugar que va a dejar Edge como la cara de SmackDown.

Earlier tonight, Wrestlezone posted an exclusive report on details regarding WWE star Edge's sudden retirement.

After speaking with several different sources, I can now confirm that Edge did seek medical advice and at least one doctor was in Pittsburgh, as WWE.com reports. As Edge mentioned in his speech on RAW, his neck is what is in question. The severity is such that any match could have been his last and caused severe permanent damage.

I am also finding out that Edge's health questions came into play when the WrestleMania script was being written. A Christian heel turn was heavily talked about and considered going into WrestleMania, but with the WWE aware of Edge's health, they went against turning a face such as Christian heel on Smackdown. Due to these factors, Christian remained a face at WrestleMania. This allowed Edge to walk away with the title which has led to him getting to leave "on top" and having an appropriate send off.
